Clean air technology: Wet electrostatic precipitator

Wet electrostatic precipitators have been used for many decades for the effective separation of micro-particles and aerosols. Michaelis uses long term operational experiences in the industrial field and offers wet ESP systems with gas flow capacities from 500 Nm3/h upwards.

Wet electrostatic precipitators are operated in water-saturated areas, i. e. after quenchers or scrubbers. The high moisture content of the flue gas increases the electrical conductivity. Under this condition even very small particles and aerosols are separated effectively.

Fields of application:

  • Acid mist and other aerosols
  • Fumes
  • Coating procedures
  • Fibre glass production
  • Zinc coating process
  • Particles with high output resistance
  • Incineration furnaces
  • Oil and tar mist
  • Pigment production
  • Soil decontamination units
  • Surface treating process
  • Incineration of salt solutions
  • Rolling mills
  • Silicon industry

Operational experiences:

  • Combination with a scrubber or an integrated quenching step
  • Automatic flushing of the separating electrodes, no plugging
  • Controlled high voltage device
  • Selection of suitable materials of construction
  • Clean gas dust concentrations lower than 1 mg/Nm3 achievable
  • Separation of particles smaller than 1 µm
  • Separation of SO3, acid mist
  • No wear of filter media
  • Great operational experiences with this technology

Advantages:

  • High removal efficiency for aerosols
  • Low specific power consumption
  • Nearly maintenance-free
